This week, Illinois’ joint commission on ethics and lobbying reform met in Chicago for just the 2nd time. The topic of the meeting was lobbyist registration and reporting laws and what if anything can be done to improve transparency on these issues..
In the past few months, the issue of sitting legislators serving as lobbyists for municipal governments has bubbled to the surface. This comes on the heels of the arrest of a State Representative for offering a bribe to a powerful State Senator in exchange for moving legislation that the accused legislator was lobbying for.
Luckily for the people of Illinois, the FBI was on the case and the crime was stopped before it could be committed. As the joint commission on ethics and lobbying reform continues its work, I will keep you updated on any progress. Illinois has a major problem with public corruption, and the people of Illinois are counting on their elected officials to clean up government and devise ways to end self dealing and self enrichment using the power of one’s elected office.
SIU’s Online MBA program Best Among Illinois’ Universities
I was happy to read another positive story about Southern Illinois University in the news this week. This time, rankings for Illinois’ best online program to obtain the degree of Master of Business Administration (MBA) were released in US News and World Report.
For the 2nd year in a row, SIU was ranked highest in the state and SIU is the only Illinois institution earning a spot among the programs ranked in the top 125 in the United States.
Congratulations to everyone at the SIU School of Business for their hard work and dedication to making SIU’s MBA program a great success and a model for the rest of the State. You can read coverage of this story in The Southern Illinoisan by clicking here:
