Another busy week has come and gone. In this week’s E News, I reveal my recent Committee assignments, and discuss a bill that I’m sponsoring to keep paying state employees.
My legislative agenda is also taking shape. To follow my legislation as it moves through the House and Senate, please visit the Illinois General Assembly’s website at www.ilga.gov.

House Committee Assignments
The 100th General Assembly will feature 58 standing Committees. You can review these Committees by clicking here. As a third-term Representative, I was afforded the opportunity this Session to take a leadership role as Minority Spokesperson on the House Committee on Aging.
I will also be a standing member of these other Committees: Health Care Licenses, Higher Education, Judiciary-Criminal Law, and Tourism, Hospitality and Craft Industries.
Legislative Agenda and State Employee Pay Issue
This week, I signed on as a co-sponsor of HB 1787. The measure would create a continuing appropriation to ensure that state workers continue to receive their paychecks on time and in full, regardless of whether or not a larger state spending plan has been passed.
Last week I told you about Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s attempts in court to stop paying state workers. I vehemently oppose this move by the Attorney General. Now is NOT the time to blow up negotiations by forcing a crisis. The employees that could be adversely affected by this legal maneuver are providing necessary public safety, health care, and a host of other vital services to the State of Illinois.
